Through November 3, Seed the Vote is bringing canvassers to Michigan to help elect Abdul El-Sayed to the U.S. Senate and Will Lawrence to Congress, and to defeat MAGA candidate Mike Rogers. Since 2020, STV has mobilized 17,000 volunteers to knock 850,000 doors. This fall, we’re putting that experience to work in Detroit and Lansing, with a series of canvass weekends built around the communities that will decide this race.
Travel and lodging support is available for anyone who needs it.
Jewish Community Canvass
Jewish volunteers launched Jews for Abdul to amplify their support for Abdul El-Sayed and to counter the tropes coming out of Michigan that urge Jews to vote for Mike Rogers. It’s a “meeting the moment” intervention: Jews across the country oppose the weaponization of antisemitism against Abdul, and our visibility in support of him helps empower people of all identities to back him and other candidates facing bad-faith attacks.
At the launch call, STV’s Jonathan Mendoza put it this way:
“In this time after Yom Kippur, we view this work as holy, as a responsibility to be in alignment with our values in the new year. We will not sit on the sidelines while the Republican Party, Mike Rogers, and others try to divide us.”
We’re grateful to former Congressman Andy Levin, Rabbi Alana Alpert, and Eli Williams-Szenes of Bend the Arc: Jewish Action for sharing their insights on organizing the Jewish community in Michigan.

Muslim & Arab Community Canvass
Alongside our partners at Unity & Justice Fund, we’re knocking doors for Abdul in Detroit’s Muslim and Arab communities. For many volunteers, it’s their first time canvassing, and it can feel intimidating. Abdo Mutlaq, a 24-year-old volunteer from Birmingham, Alabama, felt that too on his first trip to Detroit:
“In my own community, I’ve learned that the fastest way to change things is to elect people who will actually fight for us. And with everything going on in our country, that felt way bigger than my nerves.”
Abdo says people were kind, his nerves faded fast, and he left knowing every door mattered. The candidates on the ballot in Michigan are running to get money out of politics, put money in people’s pockets, and get health care for everyone.
