Seed the Vote was founded in 2020 to win elections in the MAGA era while building the long-term power of local groups in battleground states. We work to strengthen these local groups – unions and community organizations rooted in the working-class and communities of color – as we fight to win swing elections. In this challenging and very dangerous moment, Seed the Vote is committed to blocking MAGA’s authoritarian power grab AND fighting for progressive power to win the changes that our communities need. The 2026 midterms are an opportunity to win back Congress and set the groundwork for winning the White House in 2028, but to do this, we also need a fighting Democratic party that throws punches. Our plans for this year prioritize both tasks, winning with progressive fighters in the primaries, and beating MAGA in the midterm elections.
What Makes Us Different?
OUR GOAL IS TO DEFEAT MAGA, AND TO CHART A PATH TOWARDS WINNING PROGRESSIVE CHANGE.
We want a society and government that works for all of us - where we have well-paying jobs, health and housing care for all, voting rights, reproductive rights, immigration reform, clean air and water, justice and peace. MAGA stands in the way of that vision. Because of this, we work to defeat MAGA at all levels, to strengthen resistance to MAGA within the Democratic party, and to move our government and Democratic party from serving the interests of billionaires and corporations to fighting for the things our communities actually need.

Trump 2.0 makes it hard to build towards our vision of a better future in part by keeping us under attack on so many fronts. All of these attacks require us to resist and to protect our communities from immediate threats. What we saw in Minneapolis in 2026 - and in so many places across the country - shows how effective our resistance can be. At the same time, Trump and MAGA are trying to lock themselves into federal power - but we still have our foot in the door. The midterm elections represent a key moment where we can force the door back open and break some of their hold on power. It’s our shot, and we can’t miss

We doorknock with groups that organize year-round - meaning that they are working within their communities 24/7 to recruit more people (and especially working-class people and people of color) to participate in the political process, build local and statewide power, and win progressive changes that will have real impacts on people’s lives. Elections are often only one part of their work, and Seed the Vote partners with these groups to increase their impact during crucial campaigns. At our partners’ request, we send them hundreds of volunteer canvassers, so we can fight together to secure immediate wins in tight elections.

We are dedicated to winning progressive change. At the same time, we believe that it will take people of many political stripes to win. We don’t have to agree on everything, but we can work together on our shared goal of defeating MAGA.

Our canvasses are all about working hard while building a sense of community. We make sure our canvassers are well trained, and that their time is used well. We strive to ensure that each canvasser is part of a team, sees their impact, AND has some fun. It’s all about building connection – with voters and within the Seed the Vote canvassing crew.
